Beijing is Chic goes China! (II)

During their first visits to Beijing, many expats are terrified to cross the streets. It seems like traffic comes at them in a completely haphazard fashion. A little fear is probably a healthy thing, as it makes one cautious - but in Beijing traffic, assertiveness is the only way to get where you want to go. Of course, being assertive does not mean being reckless. there are some unwritten "rules" that folks in Beijing dollow to get ahead ando to avoid being run by cars, bicycles and buses.

An unwritten rule for pedestrians is to use crossing lights as guidelines only. Just because the light is flashing in your favour does not mean that is safe to cross the street.
